Global Curriculum Changemaker Framework
Heriot-Watt’s approach to globally connected learning and purpose-driven education ensures our students develop the capabilities, curiosity, and sense of purpose to truly make an impact on the global challenges of our time.
The Global Changemaker Curriculum Framework is designed to support innovation and inspire sharing of practice across our programmes, disciplines and Schools.
The Framework is a practical tool to:
- support conversation within teaching teams on ‘big issues’ that frame curriculum decisions.
- share practice across the university.
- ensure the Heriot-Watt graduate attributes are practically considered in the programme and course design process.
- identify and celebrate innovative practice in curriculum design.
The Framework is underpinned by practical resources to support the design of programmes and courses.
The Global Changemaker Curriculum Framework is designed to be used flexibly by teaching teams to help support them with curriculum design and development by:
- Introducing a common language and set of themes for exploring curriculum development;
- Providing examples and exemplars of practice to support teaching teams in their programme, course and assessment design;
- Aligning with systems and processes for curriculum approval and review;
- Opening space for creativity and innovation, connecting colleagues across the university with shared interests and expertise.
The Global Changemaker Curriculum is framed around six key dimensions that teaching teams are encouraged to consider while developing or revising their curriculum offer.
- Dimension 1: Learning for Sustainable Development
- Dimension 2: Assessment for Learning
- Dimension 3: Discovery and Co-Creation of Learning
- Dimension 4: Research, Industry & Community Collaboration
- Dimension 5: Inclusive Global Learning Communities
- Dimension 6: Resilience, Wellbeing & Compassion
Dimensions are supported by key discussion questions, case studies and examples of practice to inspire teaching teams and open space for cross-university collaboration.
