Inspiring Teaching
The LTA offers a dynamic programme of support tailored to the diverse needs of our community.
This includes opportunities for developing, enhancing, and empowering colleagues in their teaching practice. Inspiring Teaching
We provide support for those taking their first steps into university teaching and create development opportunities for staff who have more experience in teaching, who may be leading academic programmes or learning and teaching initiatives.
Most of our resources are open to all. For example, the Watt Works Quick Guides offer quick insights, hints and tips about a range of aspects of learning, teaching and assessment, and our Sharing Practice Sessions are a great way to make connections and engage in practice-oriented conversations with colleagues.
We have a range of taught provision as follows:
- Getting started with teaching at HW – These two sessions provide the fundamental skills for those who are just starting out with teaching in higher education.
- New to teaching network – This community of practice of those new to teaching or new to teaching at HW meets monthly to share practice on teaching and learning.
- Learning About Learning course – This formal Postgraduate course is centred on reflective professional practice, providing detailed pedagogical study of learning and teaching, as well as practical support to develop teaching skills.
- Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning (PGCertTL) – This formal 2-year Postgraduate programme builds on Learning About Learning to provide more detailed pedagogical study of learning and teaching, opportunities for reflective practice, practical support, and scholarship.
As well as taught provision, we provide support to extend your teaching practice. See Fellowship and Leadership and Events for more information.
