Call for Proposals: Learning & Teaching Enhancement Mini-Projects AY23-24

The LTA is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for Learning and Teaching Enhancement Mini-Projects. These projects are funded jointly by QAA Scotland and Heriot-Watt University. The call is open to staff and students at Heriot-Watt University and is available from 11/12/23 until 22/1/24.

We invite proposals under the overarching theme of effective and inclusive Globally Connected Learning. Proposals should address the overarching theme and one or more of the following sub-themes:

  • Strengthening effective, global and inclusive learning design and teaching practice.
  • Collaboration between and across teaching teams and / or student communities.
  • Making effective and inclusive use of (global) learning spaces and / or learning technologies.
  • Facilitating student and staff wellbeing and / or a sense of belonging.

Given the focus on Globally Connected Learning we encourage you to consider projects that include more than one campus, or which could be expanded to cover more than one campus. We are keen to receive proposals from student-led projects or those delivered in partnership. As in previous years we are looking for Active Change Projects which will make a difference to student learning experience or have an impact on the campus, institution or wider community. You can browse completed enhancement themes projects for inspiration.

Proposals should include:

  • a rationale for the project including the basis in relevant literature,
  • potential outcomes for School/Campus/discipline,
  • a dissemination plan
  • detailed costings (i.e. not just a lump sum figure).

The funds available for mini-projects is maximum of £1500 per year.

Project funds should be spent by 30th June 2024. Project funding cannot be used for purchase of equipment.

Projects may be short (completed by June 2024) or longer term (completed by June 2025). If you are applying for 2-year funding, you must indicate this in your initial proposal, including the details of Phase 1 (2024) and Phase 2 (2024/25) of the project.
